Overview

The purpose

Start! is a basic six-session introduction to the Christian faith for use in small groups.

The sessions assume no previous knowledge of anything Christian. They use a mix of DVD input, time to chat, simple discussion activities and space for reflection. All in a style that is down-to-earth and honest, and which aims to be enjoyable too.

The people

Start! is designed primarily for a group of about five to ten members with two leaders. As well as those who want to know more about Christianity, Start! works well with baptism families, wedding contacts, bereaved families, parents of children and teenagers and those who are new to the church.

The place

The chosen venue should be determined by the nature of the group. Some people find it difficult to come to a church, while others may be uncomfortable visiting a strange home. It can be best to find a public venue, such as a community hall. We’ve even heard of churches hiring a room at the local pub or coffee bar.

The pack

The Start! pack comes with everything you need to run a Start! course, including:

A DVD with two clips for each session plus

advice on how to get the most out of running a course

A course leaders’ handbook explaining the aims and content

of each session and providing photocopiable resources

A CD-ROM containing electronic versions of the members’ booklet and

resource sheets, plus alternative resource sheets and publicity
materials, including artwork and logos
